The Albuquerque Public School District #12 covers approximately 1,200 square miles, spanning two counties (Bernalillo and Sandoval). APS owns 2,700+/- acres of land that are used for schools, administrative offices, and land banking purposes. APS manages 11+/- million square feet of permanent floor space on 143 sites. In addition, APS handles over 1,500 portable classrooms covering almost 2+/- million square feet of portable floor space.
APS has aggressively entered the Real Estate market by evaluating its portfolio to determine which properties should be sold and which should be developed to raise additional monies for new school projects for its growing population. APS will be selling and leasing, as well as partnering with developers to build new, mixed-use projects. APS has several joint use agreements with other governmental agencies to share use of APS owned properties. APS owns several parks (Roosevelt, La Mesa) that are operated by either the City of Albuquerque or County of Bernalillo under memoranda of understanding with the City of Albuquerque, County of Bernalillo, and other governmental agencies.
